Algae are rich in minerals, vitamins and trace elements and therefore also very popular in clothing. The dried algae are crushed and mixed with cellulose and spun into a fiber using the Lyocell method. This creates a natural chemical fiber. The company Smartfiber AG (Rudolstadt, Germany) has patented this process for the SeaCell ™ material. The algae used are mostly from the Icelandic fjords.
