Modal can be obtained from the natural cellulose of bamboo, eucalyptus, beech and pine and is one of the natural chemical fibers. Predominantly, however, debarked beechwood is used for the manufacturing process, resulting in very rigid filaments.
The company LENZING AG (Lenzing, Austria) developed the Modal Edelweiss® technology, which exclusively uses beech wood from sustainable forestry. The chemical process takes place in a closed cycle and is CO2 neutral. The chemicals can be recovered up to 95%.
